Nearly two decades into their careers, Snow Patrol returned to Washignton, D.C. with the power of a band who’ve weathered the years, without losing a touch of the emotion in their sound. Touring in support of The Forest is the Path, their first full-length album since 2018. The Scottish/Irish alt-rock veterans brought an incredible career-spanning set to The Anthem.

Opening with the powerful “Take Back the City,” Gary Lightbody quickly set the tone for the eager crowd. The show was seated, but that quickly changed and set the tone for the rest of the set. The chemistry between the band and the crowd was readily apparent. With guitarists Johnny McDaid and Nathan Connolly trading lines, and Lightbody paying close attention, singing right to the audience. McDaid was a surprising face to see at the show considering he broke one of his hands earlier in the year. Lightbody spoke on this briefly and told the crowd McDaid was still in recovery.

The band’s newer material, “All” and “The Beginning,” fit right into the setlist. These new tracks were met with the same energy as older favorites. Strong evidence that Snow Patrol’s writing still resonates deeply with a newer audience, as well as returning fans.

Of course, no Snow Patrol Set would be complete without, “Chasing Cars,” and the room swelled with voices during its chorus, a reminder of how music connects. They closed the night with a two-part encore, “What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?” following with, “Just Say Yes,” truly showing the band’s ability to soothe and excite!

With the US leg of the tour wrapped, Snow Patrol now returns back to the UK. But, their stop in DC left a lasting imprint, leaving many yearning for a swift return.
